Seed Forward Initiative

The USDA Seed Forward Initiative is a public–private partnership designed to strengthen the U.S. seed system by accelerating the development, testing, and adoption of improved crop varieties. The initiative focuses on enhancing genetic diversity, climate resilience, and productivity in seeds through collaboration among breeders, researchers, seed companies, and farmers. By modernizing seed research infrastructure and improving coordination across the seed value chain, Seed Forward supports agricultural innovation and helps ensure a resilient, competitive, and sustainable food system in the face of climate and market challenges.
